Following an extensive tender exercise carried out under the European Union Public Procurement Regulations Competitive Dialogue procedure, Ordnance Survey, the national mapping agency of Great Britain, has chosen the three-company team, led by Intergraph Corporation, to drive production efficiency, improve data consistency and support the creation of new products.
Snowflake Software is pleased to announce it has been selected as part of the team to provide the next generation geospatial database and data management system.
Ordnance Survey is internationally renowned for providing the most detailed maps for government, business and individual usage. The geographic database describes more than 440 million individual features and is subjected to over a million changes / updates every year. Measuring and assimilating these changes into the database requires accurate and efficient planning and control.
The decision to select the three company team is the perfect example of the benefits of working with open standards: the ability to gain from the best of breed technology from suppliers in the industry. "We are very excited that Snowflake's products and consultancy services have been chosen to form an integral part of this key infrastructure project for Ordnance Survey," commented Ian Painter, Managing Director of Snowflake Software. "Working closely with Intergraph and 1Spatial and their respective technologies, we are confident that the team will deliver a scalable, performant and robust solution."
"This is an important step forward on the development of our seamless data management system," said Bob Goodrich, Ordnance Survey's Director of Information Systems. "As a result of this implementation, we will have a truly modernized system that will provide the nation with unprecedented access to current, accurate data."
The system will provide enterprise-wide capabilities for the management, planning, coordination, and control of data capture and production activities. Ordnance Survey's large-scale data holdings will be managed in a centralized geospatial database, and a standards-based interface will integrate field and office-based editing tools as well as those from external contractors. The system will ensure consistency between Ordnance Survey products and enable it to develop new, innovative products.
