IME and Snowflake collaborate to bring CAD precision to GIS

Engineering based GIS and CAD clients are seldom well understood by corporate GIS teams. Consequently, CAD is often overlooked in the integration of OS MasterMap ® within a centralised Oracle database or, best case, thought about last minute. 80% of large-scale mapping is, conversely, carried out in environments requiring the CAD precision of Autodesk Map. IME and Snowflake Software are now working closely together to address this issue with an integrated GIS Tool from Snowflake and consultancy, training and bespoke development services from IME. Together the companies are ensuring best practice and value from data loaded with Snowflake's GML loading tool, GO Loader.

The alliance brings the best of capabilities to the GIS market: Snowflake's understanding of GML and Oracle and IME's high level of expertise in the integration of the Autodesk GI suite.

As part of the agreement, Snowflake Software is now incorporating a component of IME's Oracle Data Link (ODL) product for Autodesk Map within its freely available GIS Registration Tool for GO Loader. Through using ODL, the GO Loader GIS Registration Tool enables users of Autodesk Map 2005, 2006 and 2007 to have direct read-only access to their OS MasterMap data stored within Oracle. Users can then upgrade this capability to include:

Management of all Oracle geometry for Autodesk Map

  • Thematic layering of data based on user-definable and configurable options
  • Extensive wizard-driven user interface including visibility of SQL scripting
  • Creation of appropriate permissions and access to data held in foreign schemas

IME also provide extended services and managing solutions around ODL to ensure users can benefit from the extensive capabilities of Autodesk Map and truly integrate CAD precision in their environment.

“IME are excited to be able to work with Snowflake in further enabling the integration of Autodesk Map users into corporate GO Loader datastores through the incorporation of the Oracle Data Link into the GIS Registration Tool." said Crispin Hoult, Technical Director at IME. “IME's existing client base already benefits from our experience and now, with integration into the GIS Registration Tool, all Autodesk Map users can benefit from visibility of corporate GO Loader datastores."

“We've enjoyed a long working relationship with IME and are already working on several projects together,” explained Ian Painter, Managing Director of Snowflake Software, “Integrating IME's Oracle Data Link product within GO Loader was an obvious choice for us. Their understanding of the Autodesk product suite means our customer base has automatic access to that expertise when loading data for use with Autodesk Map.”
