Innovative ITN RRI Tool Now Available

Snowflake Software announces the availability of its GO Loader ITN Tool, delivering the richness of OS MasterMap's ITN layers to the GIS environment

The Road Routing Information (RRI) layer of the ITN product provides all manner of detail about restrictions within the road network of Great Britain: from 'No U-Turns', through 'Bridge Height Limitations' to 'Bus/Taxi Access Only'. Even temporal information such as 'Access Only After 18.00hrs' is contained within this layer. The challenge is to find a way of displaying this data clearly and easily within a GIS environment.

To address this challenge, the new ITN tool for GO Loader generates linework that accurately depicts the path of a restriction, clearly identifying how it applies to the road network and how it could potentially affect the user. This clear and precise representation is essential when a traveler needs to be able to change direction based on the re-routing requirements, particularly when time is of essence as is the case with emergency vehicles.

Example of arrow depiction showing the exact restriction representation

Blue Arrow = One way routing

Red Arrow = No Turn

Red Circle = Prohibited Access

Snowflake's innovative approach also allows for the display of multiple restrictions at any one road junction. This results in a clutter free visualisation of even the most complex restrictions, and dramatically improves interrogation times when analysing junction restrictions within a GIS.

Aside from the complex geometry processing, the new GO Loader ITN Tool applies an advanced algorithm to convert all qualifying information into a single readable text string. By interrogating this text string on a restriction link, the user can easily determine the qualifying information around any given restriction, any date or time limitations and the environmental information, in one comprehensible attribute.

Implementing the ITN layers with GO Loader means customers are not just being told there is a restriction on the road. Accurate information on the restriction itself can now be displayed, supplying comprehensive and detailed alternative routing paths to help users around any potential obstacles. Customers are fully informed and able to make alternative decisions to get them back on course, in the direction of where they need to go.
